Apache Harmony is Dead – Long live Open JDK

The voting is over: Apache Harmony, an open Java implementation, will be discontinued.

After IBM stopped supporting Harmony and moving over to Open JDK, interest in Harmony vanished. Additionally there have been political argues about the Technology Compatibility Kit (TCK) and also about Googles Dalvik VM, which is based on Harmony. Seems like Harmony never had a real chance.

While it is sad that Harmony is now dead, it is good to see consolidated work being done on the Open JDK.
