Software Architecture Workshop with Dana Bredemeyer and Meet the Experts

All right, now I’m trying to write the probably shortest post ever published in the codecentric blog … ;-)

So, what’s it about?

I just wanted to point out for those who do not know yet that Dana Bredemeyer will conduct his well-known Software Architecture Workshop at codecentric from Sep-13-2010 to Sep-16-2010. Dana haven’t had an open enrollment for this workshop in Germany for almost 10 years and from all I’ve heard about it this will be a great course. So, if you are interested in that workshop and do not want to travel to the United States for that you might want to take a look at http://www.meettheexperts.de/software-architecture.

Also, I wanted to mention our “Meet the Experts” on Sep-17-2010. “New challenges in architecture today” will be the topic. Five well-known speakers, including Dana Bredemeyer, Dr. Gernot Starke and Prof. Dr. Heinz Züllighoven will share their ideas in insights with you. And, as always there will be a lot of time for discussions, networking, open space for your questions, great catering, and so on. So, if that sounds interesting for you, just have a look at http://www.meettheexperts.de/meettheexperts-architektur.

Okay, that’s all I wanted to talk about. I think those sessions will be great stuff, I will be there for sure. And if you will be there too, I’ll be glad to meet you … and if not, maybe we’ll meet some other time …

meet the experts – agility: concepts vs. userstories

On the „Meet the experts – Agility“ in this year, an open space titled „Theme concept versus User stories“ took place. The flash point for this open space was the assumption appearing in scrum lectures, that theme concepts would not be required any more. They would be replaced by user stories.

My experience has taught me to face this assumption very doubtfully. In my opinion, theme concepts are a very helpful tool in project work, even for agile projects. As an agile approach is not based on static requirements, a theme concept can no longer have the function to stipulate the business requirements, which have to be realized within the scope of the project. Much more, the function of the concepts has to be found in the pre-project phase, where it is used to structure the collected business requirements. In the course of the project and after finishing it, it roughly illustrates the requirements and helps to get a handle on the topic. In this way, it makes it easier to collect and structure new demands. (read more…)

Java Specialist Master Course Field Report

Last week I had the pleasure attended Heinz Kabutz Java Specialists Master course to sharpen my Java skills. Java Champion Heinz, is a great trainer who manages to combine anecdotes, hard facts and deep Java knowledge with engaging exercises to a well done course. The scope was the whole spectrum of Java, but focusing on the details you normally do not use, or know how to use. Some of the material he already published as part of his newsletters, which are read all around the world.

Let me share my impressions on the course with you in this day by day review…

meet the experts – architecture | November-27-2009 – a reflection

This is a reflection of the meet the experts – architecture that took place at codecentric in Solingen at November-27-2009.

Since the whole event including all talks was held completly in german an english version of this reflection would probably not be very expedient. Thus I decided not to translate this announcement.

You can read the full version of the reflection if you switch the language to german (by clicking on the german flag in the upper left corner of this page).

Beyond that we will – of course – carry on providing an english version of our blog entries.

#scrumday in düsseldorf

scrumday düsseldorfscrumdays are local smaller sized events where SCRUM communities can meet and exchange their experience. As we are also very active in the agile community, codecentric of course had also a booth at todays scrumday in Düsseldorf. From the talks I was able to pick up two trending topics, which are quite interesting. They are not dealing with what scrum is and why it is great.
